Green tea is comprised of bioactive compounds that can impact cellular differentiation, free radical production and neurotransmitter function. One of the unique compounds found in green tea is the amino acid l-theanine, discovered in 1949.
Is "is comprised of" correct? Should it be replaced by "comprises of" or "comprises"?

incorrect.
It's "comprises" or "composed of" or "consists of".
eg. consist of; be made up of.
"the country comprises twenty states"
eg. make up; constitute.
"this single breed comprises 50 percent of the Swiss cattle population"
I would have used “ contains”
