What if we had a novel about the true nature of ghosts?

Where mages, had a secret society, and if anyone would kill themselves, because of a mage, the mages wouldn't be able to seem them?

Imagine Judas Iscariot, just putting a knife through Jesus, over and over again, and it doesn't do anything, but the knife works on everyone else, and Jesus claims credit for it as a miracle against the Roman government.

And the ghost books, are actual people, in the old photographs, but the mages see ghosts, to track them for checking out the books.

Don't forget the ventriloquists and mannequins, operating children's covens and sex parlors, that the mages think is just comedy or advertising, making the mages hunted, by special forces of quarantine agents, shown on television by actors like Rowen Atkinson (playing the most dreadful spies of our time).

Plus we could have poltergeists, as the therapist almost saving the ghost, before the therapist has to be slain, to save the mages from death in a mob hit, by the newly crowned Mafiaso, a saved man or woman.
