Murder rates are higher in GOP areas. Imagine that.

@bobsal u1553115,
Really surprised to see this. I would have thought that urban areas like Los Angles and Chicago would have been a lot worse. Do you have a link to the map?

Here is a pretty interesting gun magazine take on that graph.

@engineer,
This is based on per capita. Chicago has more dead, but Pundunk has more per capita.

Detroit and Gary Indiana sure show up red.

Waiting for a reply from the instructor who e-mailed it to me.

@engineer,
They may be right. Disarm them and disabuse them of the notion.

Different graph displaying the same information. The gunners seem to take the position: it's cultural, deal with it.

I'd like to get oralloy's take on this information.

This is the concluding statement:
Quote:
Most importantly, in a country where firearms are never going to be magically evaporated, with a guns-per-capita rate far beyond the saturation point of easy availability, we must seek cultural solutions to cultural problems.

How would a "cultural solution" be applied? What does it even mean? I think a magic firearm evaporator might be more effective.

I thought the idea of separating gun suicides from gun murders was an interesting one. It paints a different picture although still one where the prevalence of guns results in more murders.

@engineer,
I was surprised how much more gun violence there was sparsely populated sections of the US filled with lawnorder religious types than I ever thought.

You are not allowed to violate people's civil liberties.

So far as I know it's accurate.

I believe he is referring to his proposal (that he laid out in a different article) to set up a system where people who are feeling suicidal would be offered a way to voluntarily and temporarily hand over their guns until they are no longer feeling suicidal.

It is proper that falsehoods are denied.

It is proper that progressive requests to violate people's civil liberties are denied, especially when the violation is for no reason other than progressive amusement.

The increase in the number of murders is trivially small.
