As part of the deal, Ms Meng agreed to a "statement of facts" admitting that she knowingly made false statements to HSBC.

The DOJ said Ms Meng had "taken responsibility for her principal role in perpetrating a scheme to defraud a global financial institution".

"For months there have been extensive behind-the-scenes contacts, with senior Huawei executives sent to Washington by the company to try to resolve a case which has fuelled international tension."

This is BIG news to us in Canada for our two Michaels! I bet those two are coming home as soon as can be without China losing face.

Well, it's official. They're on their way home. I'm quite surprised, actually, that it's so soon as they like to save face, but delighted that the trumped up charges and imprisonment resulted, finally, in their freedom. I can't imagine the ordeal they've gone through.

I'm predicting that the USAmerican right will raise a big fuss over this, accusing Biden of "caving" to China. In reality, I think the charges were puffed up and had a lot more to do with Trumpian political theater than any real security issues.
