Some of the Indian IT companies affected include: HCL, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant and L&T Infotech.

Is the colon after "include" necessary?

Thanks!

It can be argued whether or not it is necessary, but it is customary to use a colon at the beginning of a list in UK English.

I can’t speak for American.

@tanguatlay,
As far as commas go, I'd put one after "Cognizant", unless "Cognizant and L&T Infotech" is the name of a company.

Some of the Indian IT companies affected include: HCL, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and L&T Infotech.
