Last weekend I went blueberry picking with one of my daughters. I don't even like blueberries but saw an advertisement..we used to go apple picking frequently when my kids were younger so I asked if she would like to go. She gave me an enthusiastic yes, surprising from my 18 year old to be enthusiastic about anything.

It was just a town away, we drive in and it was an older guy directing us to park. We go to a table an older woman hands us each a bucket that is all it is.. the setup four older people and a big spread of blueberry bushes.

We begin picking. And to my surprise I felt stress and everything just release ... Just looking for the perfect berries and carefully removing them so not to harm the bushes. I kept moving among the various bushes all different heights.

I am telling you never thought it would feel so good and relaxing for that hour and a half. I did eat two. I still don't really care for them.

@Linkat,
what are you going to do with them all? lol

When I was a kid, my mom and dad took all 7 of us berry picking for all kinds of berries. One day, we collected 63 lbs of strawberries. That doesn't include what we ate Smile

We used to pick the wild berries in a field every year. But we don't know of any good places to pick them now.

@Mame,
Only had like a pound and a half between the two of us..and everyone else likes blueberries so just plain eating them as snacks and as part of breakfast ..at least for the other 3 in the family.

1. It apparently was therapeutic for you.
2. Do you have any idea of why it was therapeutic for you?
3. Was it because at that moment you were away from the hustle & bustle and the hectic fast pace of life?
4. Sometimes the simple things in life can be the most relaxing.
5. Have you ever heard the phrase "Stop and smell the roses"?

Accoutrements a month ago, at the beginning of the picking season, we found a gorgeous you-pick-your-own field over near northwestern corner of CT. It 20 minutes of fun driving. The four of us picked an ate our fill.new go there when they opened. We made a bunch of strawberry jam. I think we had 3 jars of it. One is still in fridge.

Wish I could share the wealth of berries and jams we made from the berries. If you think making jam is hard, you’re wrong. Though I must admit using pectin makes it a bit less trouble and less time consuming.

@Ragman,
Yeah... back in the day, before Certo-Light, I'd make jams the other way 'round... you know, 7-8 cups of fruit to 3 cups of sugar. It was loose/thin (which I liked), but way less sweet. I loved it. Now, with the "light" pectin, I can even make my marmalade this way. Don't like sugary-sweet thick marmalade, jams or jellies.

@Mame,
100% agreed on less sweet and less thick.
