@glitterbag,
This is a link for Peggy Lee's song "why don't you do right" from 1943

https://youtu.be/4zRwze8_SGk?si=vqEkidxR1F0SCmT6

I can't down music audio over here, only on Facebook. The link above should work just fine.

@glitterbag,
Well, I remember Peggy Lee, at least for 'Fever'.

@roger,
She was fabulous, I wasn't alive (yet) in 1943....but I loved her music. Especially Fever.

She sure sounds bored to me. (never hear of this band before, apparently they were ex-pat Brits in Berlin who formed a punk band in 1980 - by the time this was released they'd morphed into a goth band)

Something from Canberra's own Teen Jesus and The Jean Teasers 'Balcony' (sounding a lot like an aussie rip off of Wet Leg in the verses, less so in the choruses.

@glitterbag,
My dad loved Peggy Lee apparently - I was playing Suzi Quatro's albume 'Your Mamma Won't Like Me' which has her cover of Fever (I was around 13) and dad told me it was a cover of Peggy Lee. I'd never heard of her but I never forgot her name after that.

@glitterbag,
Actually Peggy's version was a cover. Little Willie John wrote and first recorded it.

I know this question should have been asked a while ago, but I just found the thread and that song was originally performed by Peggy Lee in 1969. The set up is the same and the refrain, this artist just moderned up the lyrics. That's fascinating to me because I wasn't sure anyone remembered Peggy Lee. I loved her but she was more in my parent's realm.

1969 version

Lyrics
I remember when I was a little girl
Our house caught on fire
I'll never forget the look on my father's face as he
Gathered me up in his arms and
Faced through the burning building out on the pavement
And I stood there
Shivering in my pajamas and
WAtched the whole world go up in flames
And when it was all over
I said to myself
Is that all there is to a fire?
Is that all there is
Is that all there is?
If that's all there is my friends
Then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is
And when I was twelve years old
My daddy took me to the circus
The greatest show on Earth
There were clowns and elephants, dancing bears
And a beautiful lady in pink
Tights flew high above our heads
And as I sat there watching
I had the feeling that something was missing
I don't know what, but
When it was over
I said to myself
Is that all there is to the circus?
Is that all there is
Is that all there is?
If that's all there is my friends
Then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is
And then I fell in love
With the most wonderful boy in the world
We'd take long walks by the river or
Just sit for hours gazing into each other's eyes
We were so very much in love
Then one day
He went away
And I thought I'd die, but I didn't
And when I didn't
I said to myself
Is that all there is to love?
Is that all there is
Is that all there is?
If that's all there is, my friends
Then let's keep
I know what you must be saying to yourselves
If that's the way she feels about it
Why doesn't she just end it all?
Oh, no, not me
I'm not ready for that final disappointment
Because I know
Just as well as I'm standing here talking to you
That when that final moment comes
And I'm breathing my last breat
I'll be saying to myself
Is that all there is
Is that all there is?
If that's all there is my friend
Then let's keep dancing
Let's break out the booze and have a ball
If that's all there is

@edgarblythe,
Minor correction - Little Willie John didn't write it

From wikipedia
Quote:
The idea for "Fever" was presented to Otis Blackwell by an old friend, Eddie Cooley, who had a hit song called "Priscilla" in 1956.[2] Blackwell said: "Eddie Cooley was a friend of mine from New York and he called me up and said 'Man, I got an idea for a song called 'Fever', but I can't finish it.' I had to write it under another name because, at that time, I was still under contract to Joe Davis." John Davenport, the name he used, was the name of Blackwell's stepfather.[3] Little Willie John reportedly disliked the song, but was persuaded to record it, on March 1, 1956, by King Records owner Syd Nathan and arranger and producer Henry Glover.[

Whereas Peggy Lee did rewrite it a little and added two verses:
Quote:
In May 1958, Peggy Lee recorded a cover version of "Fever" in Hollywood, which featured significantly rewritten lyrics composed by Lee herself without credit. The uncopyrighted lyrics by Lee featured historical invocations (including the verses beginning "Romeo loved Juliet", and "Captain Smith and Pocahontas") and are now generally thought of as a standard part of the song, having been included in most subsequent covers of "Fever".

Thanks for clearing that up. Folks, pardon my clumsy intrusion into the thread. I intended to be helpful.
