I don't remember which national football team was the one, and in which world cup or European championship, whose members said that they lost their matches because they hadn't been able to sleep because of chirping of crickets. Or they said croak of frogs -- that's another thing that I can't remember, though either of them seemed to be funny.
There is a football team in Switzerland called Grasshopper.
@KaJe,
Ukraine’s 4-0 loss to Spain in the 2006 World Cup was blamed on being kept awake by noisy frogs.
I can’t find any reference to crickets or grasshoppers.
Let’s hope Ukraine lose on Saturday too.

Just use a noise canceler - you can also download the sound of waves, rain, etc on your phone - now granted might not have been so widely available in 2006.
One year we had those peeper frogs that kept me up all night for a good part of the summer - they chirped so damn load - think I even wrote a thread about it. So I can fully understand.
@Linkat,
I don’t know how to break this to you, but I’m not a Ukrainian footballer.
Sorry if I gave that impression.

You aren't !?! I am so disappointed.
@Linkat,
To be honest it’s a relief it’s finally come out, I couldn’t keep living the lie any longer.
@izzythepush,
Look at the bright side - at least you can sleep well at night.
@izzythepush,
You're right, now I've found the news on the basis of your help. They we're really those Ukrainians, in 2006, who blamed the frogs. Thank you!
@KaJe,
Let’s hope last night was no better.
