"We can't possibly lose" Trump told his supporter not very long ago. "The only way we lose is if they cheat".
Everyone on the left understands that this rhetoric led to deadly violence as angry Americans who felt they were victims of injustice stormed the capitol building.
We are seeing the exact same rhetoric from the political left. "We can't possibly lose the trial", they are saying. "The only way we lose if if the defense cheats or there is a 'dishonest' juror."
I don't see much responsible behavior coming from the left (or from CNN from that matter). Trials, like elections, are designed to be unbiased. And as they are unbiased, no political side can guarantee a result. What I would like to hear is more calls that our democratic institutions are more important than winning a political result.
No one knows how this trial will turn out. I fear that should the jury return a "not guilty" verdict we will see deadly violence again from people who feel justified in lashing out. If this happens, the rhetoric coming from the left right now will be at fault.
We had a free and fair election, we have a free and fair trial. For the good of the country, people need to accept the results whatever they are.
@maxdancona,
We can have a verdict as early as next week. Who knows what the verdict will be? I don't see any work being done to prevent violence in the case of a not guilty verdict, nor do I see much coverage of the defense side of the case. It seems like we are primed for violence as much as ever.
My prediction after watching the trial is that we will have a guilty verdict of manslaughter and a not-guilty verdict on the murder charges. I explain my rational on the other thread... but sure, it is just an informed guess.
I wonder if a manslaughter conviction is enough?
