‘Saturday Night Live’ Goes 4 Weeks Without Depicting Biden or Harris in a Sketch

It has now been a full month since Joe Biden became president, yet late-night sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live has still not aired a single skit about him or his administration.

SNL, known for decades as a show that skewers America’s highest elected officials, noticeably ignored Biden’s inauguration in the episode written and performed the same week. In the three weeks since that puzzling omission, “Joe Biden” has not appeared as a character on the show — only receiving a few mentions on its “Weekend Update” news segment.

This weekend, SNL skewered Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in its opening skit (pictured) and a “Weekend Update” segment but, in contrast, made no mention of President Biden’s town hall with CNN, where he delivered gaffes, falsehoods, and downright cringey lines, such as:

-He would not bail out certain levels of student loan debt (his press team backtracked on that line within 24 hours)
-His administration didn’t have “the vaccine” when he came into office (he received it before his inauguration)
-Black Americans and other minorities don’t know how to use the Internet
-He has traveled 17,000 miles with Chinese President Xi Jinping (a false statement)
-Xi’s concentration camps for Uyghur Muslims can be chalked up to different “cultural norms” and are keeping China “unified”
-“Everybody knows I like kids better than people.”

While ignoring Biden completely, the show penned a joke a “Weekend Update” accusing Israel of denying coronavirus vaccines to non-Jews. Performer Michael Che has come under fire for spreading the “antisemitic” falsehood.

Before the new year, SNL leaned on guest stars to portray Biden and his then-VP candidate, Kamala Harris. Actor and political cartoonist Jim Carrey took on the former role, and SNL alumnus Maya Rudolph took on the latter. In the show’s last episode before Christmas, series regular Alex Moffat took over for Carrey.

Comedian Adam Corolla recently explained why the comedy show that spent dozens of hours attacking Donald Trump has completely ignored Biden: they’re “scared.”

“Honestly, I get what there is to hate about Donald Trump,” Carolla recently said on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom. “What is there to love about Joe Biden? That’s the bigger question if you’re SNL. OK, you hated Trump, fine. Why do you love Joe Biden? There’s nothing to love about Joe Biden, unless you’re scared of being cancelled, and the fact that this cancel culture has drifted over to comedy is absolutely insane.”

@longjon,
Yep, it is going to be tough for comedians when the people in the White House work hard and do their jobs without 2am tweets or ridiculous press conferences.

...right.

All that hard work reading someone else's words from a teleprompter, sniffing young children while forcing them to sit on your lap. Defending your crack smoking pedophile son. Eviscerating the America economy in order to submit to master Xi Jinping.

You know, hard work.

Ya know, whenever I hear the name Kamala Harris, the face that comes to mind belongs to Maya Rudolf

At least Biden can read a speech from a teleprompter!

You obviously have no conception of the functions of the president as chief executive as opposed to Trump's role as reality TV cheerleader and no idea of the work involved in repairing the damage of the last four years. And speaking of hard work, you can't even put together an original idea and have resort to your ready list of discredited lies. Pathetic.

@hightor,
The funny thing is some of these people keep pushing the teleprompter thing when Biden is speaking to public gatherings and doing press conferences pretty much daily where he has to answer questions on the fly and he does so quite well. Honestly, if I had to rank the last seven Presidents on public speaking I would probably go Obama, Reagan, Clinton, Biden, Bush Sr., Bush Jr then Trump.

Nothing at all to make fun of Biden/Harris for. They NEVER say anything stupid like Trump did.

Nope. Never ever. They just work hard.

It's not that the mainstream media is covering up for them, oh no, not at all...

And anyone who dares mock them is a white supremacist and a misogynist! Harris is a woman of color for God's sake. You are not allowed to question her! It's not that the emperor has no clothes, it's racism! That's why when Obama was in office the press never reported anything bad about him, and comedians weren't allowed to make fun of him.

To do so would've been racism!

@longjon,
It's more a matter of frequency and magnitude than it is "never makes a gaffe". Just about anyone who routinely speaks in public will misspeak on occasion. Personally, I thought Obama was a great orator and Reagan had an onscreen warmth that really set them apart. Clinton and Bush Sr. (and Biden so far) were solid. Bush Sr. could do that distinguished grandfather thing really well and Clinton could do the "aw shucks", country boy routine but both were not quite as polished. (Biden does a good grandfather thing as well, not quite as patrician as Bush, not as hokey as Clinton.) Bush Jr. was really prone to misspeaking and I always thought he was well behind the others on the list. Then came Trump.

Exactly. And that's literally all that matters to NPCs/sheeple.

How something is said, not the content of what's actually BEING said.

This is exemplified in TDS quite well. Leftists hated Trump literally no matter what he said. But because Obama was a smooth talker, they lapped up anything he said without questioning it for even a minute. These people are quite literally like children who like things just because they're shiny.

This is the mark of an NPC (non playable character in a video game), in other words a filler human. These humans don't even want to think for themselves, they want the comfort of the herd. They look to the group to tell them what to think.

People on the right tend to be individualistic, they tend to be the protagonist in the story, whereas leftists are the filler characters that aren't interesting at all. Just like NPCs in video games.

BTW, I have to assume that most people on this website are not gainfully employed because they seem to have endless time to reply to these threads during working hours. I can't keep up with them all. Talk about living in your mother's basement.

@longjon,
LOL not other president of any party in our total history had try to stop the EC from counting the votes or seize power by so doing. Trump is in a class all by himself.

Quite the opposite. Being a great orator really means communicating effectively, getting your point across succinctly and effectively so that the meaning of what you want to communicate doesn't get bogged down in malaprops and non sequiturs. Obama and Reagan were great at it. Biden is actually solid despite his reputation for gaffes. Every day he is standing in front of the press effectively answering questions and driving home his points. He will be on SNL eventually but it's going to take them a while to find something to pick at. They are looking for funny, they don't share your rage.

Is that the phenomenon of Trump supporters believing that he's some sort of messiah?

You're not from the USA, right? In this country politicians are regularly criticized for the things they say. Trump's opponents criticized the things he said because his words were so often used for divisive purposes, evinced his total ignorance, or showed a profound lack of understanding of the role of government.

You really live in a fictional world, as this statement demonstrates.

They have these great portable devices now that allow people to keep in touch electronically — all day long!

@longjon,
Well, if Biden manages to trip up the stairs of Air Force One with tp stuck to his shoe.. or Jill continually swats Joe's hands away from her.. or miraculously comes up with the idea to inject bleach into carpenter ants to see them better...

Then he'll make it to a skit on SNL.

Face it, the last administration was... humiliated for good reason.
