If a + b = 8, and a – b = 10, what is the value of (a – b)(a^2– b^2 ) ?

@jmiele,
If a +b = 8 then a = 8 - b

Substitute this value for a into a - b = 10 to solve for b and a, then calculate the value of the other expression.

@jmiele,
There are two ways to do this. The first is to solve for a and b. The other is to recognize that (a-b)(a^2– b^2 ) can be factored to (a-b)(a-b)(a+b) and you can just fill in the values.
