Hi everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

This is my newest at the shelter. Her name is Whiskers (nickname Biskies). His momma and daddy are on the Katrina clean up crew and don't know when they will be back. She was being cared for by an elderly gentleman but he is no longer able to do so.

Whiskers has an open wound on her neck from a wolf worm being removed a year ago! I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow to see if we can get it closed up. She has acclimated very well. She is one big cat!

Momma Angel: What a beauty! Whiskers is gorgeous. Will her original human parents be able to take her back when they finish cleaning up after the hurricane? A year-old open wound doesn't sound good ! Please keep us posted on how that turns out ! Welcome Miss Whiskers !

P.S. How much does she weigh?

Linda,

Whiskers is 8 years old. Her parents are hoping to get her back. We made an agreement that I would keep her here for six months. If they could not get her then, I would try to find her a new home. But, truth be known, she will probably just stay here with me. The older cats do not adopt very well.

I don't really think the wound is that bad. It looks like it is just the layer of skin right under her fur. I am putting peroxide on it and antibiotic cream. There is no discharge, leakage, or any kind of a bad smell. The muscles seem just fine. I will find out tomorrow though. She is not in any pain. That is very obvious by her playfulness.

She weighs 18 pounds! I have her on a bit of a diet. Not good for a cat that age to be weighing so much. The elderly gentleman that was taking care of her would just put out a ton of food (different kinds) and she ate to her heart's content.

M.A.: 18 pounds? Yikes ! She needs to go to Overeaters Annonymous and go thru a 12-meow program. {lol} That much poundage isn't healthy.
I'm glad her neck isn't as bad as it sounds.

Yeah Linda, she's a tubby! Her belly hangs quite a bit and she looks like she's about a foot wide. She seems to be in pretty good health though. Her coat is not as shiny as it should be but that could be because of all the different kinds of foods. I have some Science Diet cat food for overweight cats. She likes that just fine and can eat pretty much as much of it as she wants.

She really is a sweetie. She adjusted so well. Just came right in and started looking around. She loves to lay at my feet while I am at the computer.

Thanks for that endorsement, Linda. I have a ton of it. When all that cat food was donated to me, I got some for diabetic cats, adults, kittnes, kidney problems, you name it, I got it.

But it sort of makes you want to warn the prey that's being crept up on, hey, Linda?
