Folk, I Indulge, seem to agree - What do you 'taking it up the ars#' quote GC - US folk think?

I don't see him as a mere comic - He had scruples & a brain.
Just curious as to how the 40+yrs-old americans view him?

Cheers.

Have A lovely Day

I really like George Carlin. He is, without a doubt, and important figure in the history of American comedy. His ideas on free speech are important... and his battle with TV censors is now a part of history.

I am not sure if I would categorize him as the best. But he certainly is one of the most important.

@mark noble,
Early in his career he was funny—his take on banned words is a classic—but as he aged his comedy became bitter. I couldn't relate to his later material and didn't find it funny.

@mark noble,
1. Comedy is an art form.

2. Comedy is also very subjective.

3. There are many other comedians I would place above George Carlin.

4. Remember, comedy is very subjective.

@mark noble,
1. I am a big fan of stand-up comedy.

2. My first exposure to stand-up comedy was during the 1970s listening to my dad's Richard Pryor comedy albums and cassette tapes.

3. Since then, all the way to the present time, I've seen or heard hundreds of different stand-up comics.

4. Year after year. Decade after decade.

5. I still listen to new comics still today.

6. Some stand-up comics, I've seen live (in-person).

7. Some stand-up comedy shows I've seen in the movies.

8. Some stand-up comedy routines, I've heard on SiriusXM satelite radio.

9. Some stand-up comedy routines, I've seen on cable television.

10. Some stand-up comedy routines, I've seen on youtube.

11. The first time I probably seen a George Carlin stand-up routine was probably on cable television HBO sometime during 1970s.

@Real Music,
I've viewed everything 'viewable' of GC.
I'm Not American, Ergo 'Have a sense of humour'.

So "What" is 'humour'?

Laurel and Hardy - Slapstick.
Three Stooges, Marx Bros - Slapstick
Jerry Lewis - Norman Wisdom wannabe.
Prior - Profanism
Murphy - Profanism
Wilder - Dumbism.
Chase- Dumbism
Rock - Dumbism
Hicks - Dissidentism.
Fox News - Retardism.

What else is There? Will Smith & Matt le joey?

I could relate to it but I didn't think it was funny. Sort of like the later material of Lenny Bruce.
