What is the deal with the Bing search engine?

Hi. I'm just a little curious about this. Bing is a major search engine that Microsoft created, which is similar to Google, and I presume was created to rival Google.

If Bing is a major search engine like Google how come you don't really hear about it?

Do people actually say "Bing it!", when talking about searching for something on Bing, or am I the only one?

Please help. Thank you.

Good news. Yes, people are saying “Bing it" It was around 2001 when I first really noticed the transition from people talking about “searching” for something to “Googling” information. As Google's brand grew, it also became a synonym for search engines in general.

Google is functionally better (best in fact).

DuckDuckGo is functionally good enough (usually) and offers far better (best in fact) security and privacy.

Bing lags in both functionality and privacy, but the daily background images are truly stunning.

I use DuckDuckGo for most searches. I use Google on the occasions when DuckDuckGo isn't good enough. From time to time I swing by Bing to look at the daily background image.

What makes you make this factless overly simplistic generalized statement?

Google has a 90+% market share of the search engine business. Bing is barely hanging on to second place.

@tsarstepan,
Wow. I'm surprised so few people use DuckDuckGo that it isn't even listed.

@JGoldman10,
Quote:
DuckDuckGo (also abbreviated as DDG) is an internet search engine that emphasizes protecting searchers' privacy and avoiding the filter bubble of personalized search results.[4] DuckDuckGo distinguishes itself from other search engines by not profiling its users and by showing all users the same search results for a given search term.[6]
Quote:
DuckDuckGo positions itself as a search engine that puts privacy first and as such it does not store IP addresses, does not log user information, and uses cookies only when required. Gabriel Weinberg, creator of DuckDuckGo, states: "By default, DuckDuckGo does not collect or share personal information. That is our privacy policy in a nutshell."

I recall in the early days of commercialized internet access AOL Search and CompuServe were major search engines. There was also Lycos, Altavista, Excite, Infoseek, Webcrawler and Hotbot. Yahoo had a major search engine too if I remember right. There was also MSN Search which eventually was rebranded as Bing.

I know there were other search engines in the '90s but I don't remember any other ones off-hand.
