Depends on the approach...now is a pipping to be first or second in the line?

I had put in thalweg after rapheb gave me Zenith. then Ralpheb came in with theologian.. Here is the oreder 1)Zenith...by Ralph
2)Thalweg...by me
3)Theologian...by Ralph
It was when I looked again that I realized the situation and made a note to Ralph. Same thing happened yesterday and another mentioned it to him so I figured why not give Ralpheb yet another heads up.

Back to the original though, which is the pipped person?

Yes, it does. I first heard it from the venerable Clary. I assume it's British. Anyway, the correct form in 'pipping' is to take it from the FIRST answer, not the second or such. That's the proper way to do it, although we are all human and fallible! Clear as mud, ralph?
