For the faithful who believe in prayer, it works out for them. Even if they don't receive the answer they were hoping for. For example, John dies from leukemia, Mary has the baby, but she suffers a debilitating stroke at the time.
Prayer gives comfort to many. As does meditation (which has always been impossible for me to do)
