This is a wonderful story that's happening in "my own backyard". Research to help the body to fight off infectious diseases could prove very timely, with all the virus threats that we've had as well. Let's hope that in time this research will help in the next pandemic.
UBC Doc Gets Gates Bucks

VANCOUVER(CKNWAM980) - A UBC researcher is getting a multi-million-dollar assist in his work studying how the body can fight off infectious diseases without drugs or medication.
Dr Brett Finlay is one of three in Canada receiving grants from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenge for Global Health.
Finlay will receive C$10.7-million to research new ways of combatting drug resistance with medication that can boost the body's own disease-fighting abilities.
The focus will be on infectious diseases like malaria, typhoid, E. coli and tuberculosis.
The Gates grants go to projects which have the greatest potential to solve the world's most serious health problems.
