HP 2130 scanner does not work

Reply Tue 11 Feb, 2020 09:36 am
When I try to scan anything I get a message that the scanner is already in use and am advised to wait until it finishes. Problem is, it is hung up and never finishes. After trying everything I can I tried to uninstall-reinstall. But I got informed that I don't have the authority to do that. Any suggestions?

@edgarblythe,
This fault may be due to rodent infestation, so I suggest you first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

If the issue persists, try the steps below to reinstall the drivers:

• Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
• Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
• Restart your computer.
• Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL60948/al-146800-2/DJ2130_Full_WebPack_40.11.1124.exe to download and install the printer drivers.
• Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

• If that does not work, then please install the Windows built-in drivers by following the instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH and this should do the trick for you.

For scanning issues please try these links
• HP scan and capture link: http://hp.care/2fAFYxE helps you to download install and use the app with FAQs
• HP Smart app link: http://hp.care/2hmgdBr helps you to download install and use the app with FAQs

If the scanning issue continues, then please follow the all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2gKTFL1 to fix scan related errors.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking sweat.

Or maybe knot.

I have been working on it about a week. Much of what you suggest I have tried, but I am going to start from the beginning again and thanks for the links. Having it all in one spot could speed it up.

Again, it would not uninstall, but I saw two printer apps I had overlooked before. After I uninstalled those I restarted and the scanner began to work normally.

@roger,
I feel they could simplify much of the frustrating rigamarole if they really wanted to.

@edgarblythe,
It would sure help if the people who wrote instructions had to use all their instructions, and nothing more to be sure they made sense and actually worked.

@edgarblythe,
Just curious... how old is your scanner?

Looks like HP 2130 scanner is a all-in-one printer. All-in-one printers are not known for having very long shelf lives.

@tsarstepan,
Maybe 2 years old.

Aaak. Just beyond it's warranty (unless you have the extended warranty). But still should be newish enough that it should still work fine.

Did you buy the extended warranty per chance?

Others online have been saying the average lifespan of this generation of printers is about 8 years.
