Shouldn't it be "like many other Singaporeans" instead?

"other" is optional, so either is correct...

Yes, but less is more. If you can convey the same meaning with fewer words you should do so. Other is not needed, it's redundant, it doesn't add anything to the sentence.

Both are correct, but the first example is better, much better.
