Today is the day that the swallows were supposed to come back to Capistrano in California.
How dear to me is that song, because my brother sang it. It must be the result of cognitive mapping (or some such thing) that I can still remember the words:
When the swallows come back to Capistrano,
That's the day you promised to come back to me.
When you whispered farewell in Capistrano.
That's the day the swallow flew out to the sea.
chorus:
Oh, the mission bells will ring,
The chapel choir will sing,
And happiness will bring,
To live in my memory.
When the swallows come back to Capistrano.
That's the day you promised to
Come back to me.
All of us have a melody that spins in our head from earlier days. What's yours?
Letty, don't know if they made their way back, but I love that song. Did the Ink Spots write it?
Gala, hi,
Frankly, I'm not certain. I just saw this tidbit on the web and got carried away. That song was my Mom's favorite. I vaguely remember my brother, but I do remember his music. Strange how things strike a chord, is it not?
Especially when it's played on acoustic guitar with just a voice to make it right.
Hi Letty, The Ink Spots version is wonderful.
Gala, It seems to me that some years back, my husband and I and two of our young friends here in Florida, heard a group at The La Playa. One of the members, Duke Ganis (I think), was the last surviving member of The Ink Spots.

I didn't realize that they had done this song.
