Homeless man sentenced to house arrest
Jun, 10 2005 - 4:20 PM

KELOWNA/CKNW(AM980) - A Kelowna drug dealer has received a two month sentence to be served at home.

The problem is he doesn't have one.

19-year old Michael Hein pleaded guilty this week to possession of crystal meth and hashish for trafficking purposes.

It's unclear how Hein will serve his two-month conditional sentence, given his claims to be homeless.

The Crown had asked for actual jail time on the drug conviction, but Provincial Court Judge Judith Gedye sentenced him to two months' house arrest, plus six months' probation and fines.

Hein made the news last month when he spent three days in police custody, awaiting a hearing on a bylaw charge of failing to wear a bicycle helmet. He was arrested on the drug charge just hours after he was released.

Well who knows? Maybe he will be better off as the courts will now have to house him!

I don't think so. From what I understand, the shelters are not open during the day. It would also mean an obligation on the shelter's part to supervise him.

Interesting case.....
