Sikh teen admits he lied about hair-cutting attack

RICHMOND/CKNW(AM980) - Richmond RCMP have now confirmed a Sikh teen fabricated a story about a racially-motivated assault.
He had claimed a group of white men approached him in a school field, uttered a racial slur, beat and robbed him...then ripped off his turban and cut off his hair.
Corporal Peter Thiessen says it's not yet known whether the teen will face charges.
Thiessen says there's a lot of good reasons why the boy should be charged, and just as many as to why it would be in everyone's best interest to just leave things alone.
He says those circumstances need to be reviewed by a number of levels.
Thiessen says the boy's wounds were self-inflicted.
The teen has issued a statement of apology, saying he didn't realize it would become such a large-scale issue.
Teenagers!
For all we know he got the hair cut to look like everyone else and then realized that his parents would notice that he looked like everyone else.. Then he coped...ineptly.
That thought had crossed my mind when this story originally broke.
Great minds run in a single channel.
