Finding Similar Orchastral Songs and Composers...

Reply Mon 23 May, 2005 05:42 pm
I'm looking for any orchestral music with vocals that is intense and epic. Examples of what I'm looking for would be like John Williams - Dual of the Fates, Don Davis - Neodämmerung, and Carl Orff - O Fortuna. If you know any composers or specific works that sound similar to these three, please list them. Thank you for your time. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Very Happy I can play Vocalize Very Happy it was one of my grade 7 pieces *looks proud of self*

Ummm Tchaikovskys 5th is pretty intense stuff

*racks brains for orchestral music she's played that isn't baroque*

Oooo umm saint-saens... hell what's it called? Three movements (first is only 8 bars or so), has a nice solo viola part (hmmm i wonder why i like it... Wink )

If you want stuff that's easy to get your hands on then the orchestral scores of LotR and Gladiator are both lovely

I believe that DNEB has specified pieces with a vocal element . . . and with regard to that, Beethoven's Ninth does not, strictly speaking, have any vocal element--however, it is almost invariably performed with Beethoven's musical setting of Shiller's Ode to Joy, and it is likely very difficult if not impossible to find the latter without getting a recording of the former.
