Awhile back I started a group on MSN. It's taken some time to get the membership number up, design the site and write frequently to stir up discussion.
Today, I just checked my site, and found that MSN is now advertising 3 products on my site.
QUESTION:
Can MSN do this? How can I get some of the $$ paid by the adveritzers?
i've never been in a chat group and have no idea how they work regarding ads.
This is all news to me and I was surprised when I made the discovery today.
MSN is providing you with the service for free, right? Maintenance is not free, which is probably why they're advertising on your site. Check whatever agreement you have with them that you read when you created your chat room. I suspect it will say that they can add advertising if they wish. Doubtful that you can get a piece of that action and even if you can, it'll most likely be a very tiny amount of $$.
No you can't get any $$ from them. And you ahve no say in the placement of the ads. You also have no say in the type of ads.
They are one of the most agressive free services in terms of forced ads that there is. And i don't think they let you use your own ads on paes they host.
They caught me by surprise!
To prevent any surprises in te future work with the assumption that any place that you get free hosting will put ads on your site. There are exceptions but due to other tricks they pull it's not worth noting.
