blasting near my house

Greetings
I received a letter about upcoming blasting near my house to expand the highway, and I am being given the opportunity to have the house inspected, photographed, and video recorded for free. This would be an organization chosen by folks doing the work. I am assuming this is to document the current condition of the house in case I file a damage claim. I would like to know if I should proceed and accept this offer or is this only going to cause me trouble if I end up filling a claim? Is there anything I should do with my insurance? Should I notify them? Anything?

@samuelan,
If you dont have it done and then make a claim, what evidence supports your claim?? The insurance compnies will hire all kinds of experts to try to scientifically deny your claim.
The job of an insurance company is to take your money and NEVER give it back..
Part of my past career involved being hired as an expert in support of mining companies claims to have their insurance companies cover things like environmental claims. I gotta tell you, its a war game every bit as serious as criminal cases when only the "preponderance" of evidence must support or refute .

@farmerman,
Can the homeowner also hire his own crew to do such an inspection?

@roger,
yeh, its done lotsa times. There's so much new technology that's less than 15 years old that we don't yet have many court tests about whether such new technology is admissible or not. A case in Point was th first case in mining slumps .Recently someone used LIDAR to show how the ground had slumped before and After some deep drilling and tunneling. It took several months of out of court argument by battling experts to decide whether LIDAR was admissible under the DAUBERT rules .

The last persons I want to explain how a gizmo works is to a defense attorney

@farmerman,
Sounds like some progress. In any case, I do think the guy is entitled to the report and pictures taken by the blaster.

@farmerman,
Thank you so much. I'll reach out to them. By the way, if I want to complement this effort with hiring an organization also, what term(s) should I search for online? ( I do not know anything about this domain )
Also could you tell me the name of some organizations who do this type of work in Northern Virginia area please?

@samuelan,
geotechnical engineering . you might call Virginia Tech they have about the best geo program. U Va is there in Charlottville . Their civil engineering is also quite good ND is applied rather than "museum studies" like many of the Ivies are nowadays.
Theres also lotsa consultants in geotechnical engineering in VA(Foundations, lndslides, trenching, earthquake damage).
If youre close to DC (, there are tons of em in Burke, and Columbia.
