You can't resurrect someone through DNA. Cloning isn't the same thing as resurrection. Even if you had an industrial or university or hospital level specimen freezer to keep your sample from deteriorating? The $millions (if you're lucky or $billions) that it takes to actually clone a person ... will be an nearly impossible obstacle to cross.

Not failing to mention that it is illegal to clone human beings by most if not all known sovereign governments across the world.

Also, when you clone a person ... heck any animal (I believe) ... you are not recreating the same person. They aren't instantly an adult with the same personality, temperament, memories, experiences, quirks, etc.... You're not going to get back the grandfather that you know and love.

Hypothetically speaking: If you actually could pull this off and found the time, money, technology, and a legal away around the criminality of it all? You plan on raising your grandfather's clone as a baby through teenage hood and beyond?

Oh and there is a reason why cloning is unethical. What will you do if your clones succeeded enough to create a baby to be born... but failed in terms of damaged DNA related health disorders... and I mean serious debilitating diseases that will make the child's life extremely short and excruciatingly painful.

@tsarstepan,
This was the plot of an outstanding novel, Cyteen. Definitely worth a read.

@engineer,
I never read any of C. J. Cherryh's science fiction books. I only read some of her fantasy books.
The Goblin Mirror (1992)
Rusalka (1989) and Chernevog (1990) and (?) Yvgenie (1991)

Do you have any of his semen?

I would think you would need to freeze some genetic material in order to have any chance of doing this in the future. If I were going to attempt this, I would freeze a sample of semen.

The points about cloning vs resurrection are also valid, in order to "resurrect" someone you would need a full brain scan taken before they passed away. This brain scan would need to record each quantum state in each synapse. This is definitely outside of the range of current technology and may break fundamental laws of physics (meaning it will never be possible).

The best you can hopeful is a genetic clone... and to do that, I would start with freezing his semen.

@tsarstepan,
Have you guys read the Bobiverse series by Dennis E Taylor?

A computer nerd in present day has his brain frozen. They revive his intelligence in a dystopian future. It is a fun read.

@maxdancona,
after reading all the replies, i am really depressed, i knew i would get such replies but isn't here any way i can save myself, im an atheist , so there is no heaven or afterlife for me, i truly understand the preciousness of life and how small we humans are in this entire universe and that all we do doesn't even matter after we die, and that we might die anytime, 2 people die every second, more than 6000 every hour, whats more depressing than that ? we have seen how technology has changed the world in past 90 years so isn't there any way i can save the ones i love, hes 73 now and will barely live 5 more years, and how the heck am i supposed to ask for his semen ?!

@tsarstepan,
i read some experiments done on mice how they inherited the fear of cherry smell and how they knew the way to maze and all , we have seen how humans evolved in the past decade and the boost in science so it could be possible that we could extract our memories from our DNA anyways there is something called dark DNA, hope you heard of it, so isn't there any any any way i can save him from dying and fading into nothing, just getting erased form so called existence

I recently read the first book. Will continue with the series sometime soon. Too many books to read. So little time... especially as I'm a real slow reader and hate distractions.

You don't. It was a facetious answer to an nearly impossible question.

Not sure of any of this as I'm not an expert on genetics. Just because some people publish the results of an experiment, doesn't mean there aren't questionable results or conclusions in said experiment. Either way, even if all these studies you read or skimmed were 100% accurate? To do what your asking is nearly impossible ... even if you have the resources of a billionaire who was doing nothing else than to throw his money, time, and networking to solve this problem.

Either be a billionaire or start studying all aspects of DNA and the science of genetics. You have a long road ahead of you.

@tsarstepan,
you heard about Elizabeth Parrish, i would like you to go and read about her and her shocking results in increase in here telomeres length every year, anyways i thank you for your answers, which made me even more sad.thanks to all of you for your replies, but let me ask you one question, do you think your life counts when we see up in the dark sky, your life has only value to yourself, even if you die tomorrow nothing is gonna change, yes people who loved you will cry for few days then its over, and by the word over i mean you are now nowhere, not heaven nor hell , simply nowhere, i guess i will never understand how could people believe something{god} which they have never seen or experienced, poor brains, humanity is already domed by porn, criminals, murderers, the thing is that they dont realize how short their lives are and they are busy talking and doing ****, they dont know whats happening, they believe earth is the only place in the entire infinite universe where life exists, the thing is they never looked up in the dark night sky..if you go and tell whats happening in our time to a 17 bc man
[200 years ago man], he would probably call his mates to laugh at you .science can do things which our mind are not currently capable of thinking, have your mindset changed, thanks again, i wish youall live a long happy life
