Hey. I'm looking for a song about a long time friendship slowing dying. Nothing mad. More sad. Thanks!

Driftwood
Travis

Everything is open
Nothing is set in stone
Rivers turn to ocean
Oceans tide you home
Home is where your heart is
But your heart had to roam
Drifting over bridges
Never to return
Watching bridges burn

You're driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind you grind you

Nobody is an island
Everyone has to go
Pillars turn to butter
Butterflying low
Low is where your heart is
But your heart has to grow
Drifting under bridges
Never with the flow

And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long long time

Everywhere there's trouble
Nowhere's safe to go
Pushes turn to shovel's
Shovelling the snow
Frozen you have chosen
The path you wish to go
Drifting now forever
And forever more
Until you reach your shore

You're driftwood floating underwater
Breaking into pieces pieces pieces
Just driftwood hollow and of no use
Waterfalls will find you bind grind you

And you really didn't think it would happen
But it really is the end of the line
So I'm sorry that you turned to driftwood
But you've been drifting for a long long time
You've been drifting for a long long time
You've been drifting for a long long
Drifting for a long long time

perhaps this is more about drifting from a lover but i still think it fits well.

no doubt- don't speak

You and me
We used to be together
Everyday together always
I really feel
That I'm losing my best friend
I can't believe
This could be the end
It looks as though you're letting go
And if it's real
Well I don't want to know

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

Our memories
Well, they can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening
As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts (no, no, no)
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts

It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are...
You and me I can see us dying...are we?

Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts (no, no, no)
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't tell me cause it hurts!
I know what you're saying
So please stop explaining

Don't speak,
don't speak,
don't speak,
oh I know what you're thinking
And I don't need your reasons
I know you're good,
I know you're good,
I know you're real good
Oh, la la la la la la La la la la la la
Don't, Don't, uh-huh Hush, hush darlin'
Hush, hush darlin' Hush, hush
don't tell me tell me cause it hurts
Hush, hush darlin' Hush, hush darlin'
Hush, hush don't tell me tell me cause it hurts

why do you ask anyway?

The first few verses of Cindi Lauper's Sally's Pigeons are a good start... good music too.... but unfort end (or so I remember) with suicide...

"Sally's Pigeons"

When I was eight I had a friend
With a pirate smile
Make believe and play pretend
We were innocent and wild
Hopped a fence and slammed the gate
Running down my alleyway
In time to watch Sally's pigeons fly

We loved to watch them dive and soar
Circle in the sky
Free as a bird from three to four
And never knowing why
Neighbors pulled their wash back in
Put away my Barbie and Ken
Look out overhead
While Sally's pigeons fly

I had a fool's confidence
That the world had no boundaries
But instincts and common sense
Come in different quantities

My heart began to
Of the boy next door
She had her eye across the street
On someone shy and tall
We lived our dreams
And challenged fate
In tears she told me she was late
And Sally let his pigeons out to fly...

On the dresser sits a frame
With a photograph
Two little girls in ponytails
Some twenty one years back
She left one night with just a nod
Was lost from some back alley job
I close my eyes and Sally's pigeons fly
She never saw those birds again
And me, I can't remember when
A pirate smile hasn't made me cry
I close my eyes
And Sally's pigeons fly...

That's about a back alley abortion, not suicide... (nice lyrics, don't remember that one.)

Beck wrote a devastating song called "It's All in Your Mind," and it's on his album Sea Change.

"It's All in Your Mind"

Well it's all in your mind
Well it's all in your mind
It's all in your mind
Well it's all in your mind

And I wanted to be
And I wanted to be
Your good friend

Well I cannot believe
You got a devil up your sleeve
And he's talking to me
And I cannot believe

And I wanted to be
And I wanted to be
Your good friend

Well your all scared and stiff
A sick, stolen gift
And the people you're with
They're all scared and stiff

And I wanted to be
And I wanted to be
Your good friend.

Pretty minimal, but the song, the music, ouch.
Any song on that album, actually, might suit your needs.

You should buy the second album by The Libertines (it's self-titled). That whole album is basically about the dying friendship between the two leaders of the band. These are the lyrics to Can't Stand Me Now:

An ending fitting for the start
you twist and tore our love apart
your light fingers through the dark
that shattered the lamp and into the darkness cast us...

No you've got it the wrong way round
you shut me up and blamed it on the brown
cornered the boy kicked out at the world...the world kicked back
alot fuckin' harder now

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie (I know you lie)
I'm still in love with you (oh oh oh)

Can't take me anywhere (Can't take you anywhere)
Can't take me anywhere (Can't take you anyway)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW CAN'T STAND ME NOW
CAN'T STAND ME NOW x2

Have we enough to keep it together?
or do we just keep on pretending (and hope our luck is never ending..)
You tried to pull the wool I wasn't feeling too clever,
you took all that they're lending
until you needed mending...

If you wanna try, If you wanna try
there's no worse you could do (oh oh oh)
I know you lie (All you do is make me cry)
All these words they ain't true

Can't take me anywhere (Can't take you anywhere)
Can't take me anywhere (Can't take you anyway)
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

YOU CAN'T STAND ME NOW
