Where I live, a person who thinks of his or her interests only, is said to be "calculating". I wonder if this is the word used by native speakers. If not, what is the word used?

To me, calculating implies a level of deceit and/or ruthlessness. The person is not only thinking of their own interests; but, also willing to do whatever they have to, in order to reach their goal.

If just thinking of their own interests, without being willing to hurt others, I would likely say self-serving.
