Sensei Wong Tuang Seng(,) born in 13 March 1942(,) began his karate training at the Shitoryu Karate Association in June 1967 at the age of 25 years old. The Association established in 1964 was then known as the Singapore Karate Association. His first instructor was Sensei K Oda, a graduate from the Kansai University in Osaka, Japan. The appointment of Sensei K Oda paved the way for a succession of 4 other instructor and Sensei Wong continued to train under Sensei K Kawata, Sensei Y Ishikawa, Sensei T Yoneda and Sensei T Shintani. Sensei T Yoneda was responsible in introducing "sports karate" in Singapore.
Should there be commas at the places indicated by brackets inserted by me?
Thanks.
Yes, I would use them there. However, you must remove "in" from the date. Had you only said that he was born "in March," that would have been correct. But as you give the date, you should not use "in" for that locution.
Thanks, Setanta.
So, the first sentence should read with the "in" removed as follows:
Sensei Wong Tuang Seng, born 13 March 1942, began his karate training at the Shitoryu Karate Association in June 1967 at the age of 25 years old.
Am I correct?
