I've seen this movie maybe 3 times, and really enjoyed each viewing.

I watched it last maybe a week ago, albeit fast forwarding through some parts.

While it's an enjoyable movie, one thing keeps bothering me.

Is it me, or does the dancing really suck in the movie, especially Billy's dancing?

Is it supposed to be bad on purpose, like showing how perserverance will be enough, or....is his dancing supposed to be good, and I'm just not seeing it?

I'm not talking about when he first starts, but through the whole movie.

He looks like a marionette flailing about.

Here's Billy's audition at the Royal Ballet. Dancing starts around 2:50

This is what gets him accepted into the Royal Ballet?

Here's an actual audition video for a boy for the Royal Ballet.

His actual dance starts at 5:11

@chai2,
Adam Cooper played the adult Billy Elliot in the final scene.

Here he is actually performing in Swan Lake

It is one of the wonders of the world how Baryshnikov was able to just hang in mid air....
