Should there be a comma after "Mary"?

I think, though some might argue I rarely do, that, in this particular instance which, of course, doesn't cover all instances or even, I suppose, most instances, my take here is that commas, a unique grammatical or semantic device used in English, the language we are speaking now, can be, at times, overused.
