is duck duck go really free of tracking as people believe or is this just more of an urban legend?

Well, its certainly what they claim, so it's not just an urban legend.

I guess they could be lying. But I see no reason why they would lie about it.

There's no question that Google is evil. In the absence of any reason not to use DuckDuckGo, I'm going to keep using them.

I also use duckduckgo, but have found some instances where google is better. So far as I have found, DDG is not tracking me or doing any advertising to me based on browsing habits.

@McGentrix,
Sometimes I need to jump from DuckDuckGo to Google, but not often.

The nice thing with DuckDuckGo is, it's easy to jump if I need to. If DuckDuckGo search results are unsatisfactory, all I need to do is add !g to the search string and it's a Google search.

Same if I want to search Amazon. Add !a to a DuckDuckGo search and it's an Amazon search.

Add !w and it's a Wikipedia search.

Add !yt and it's a YouTube search.

For that matter, if I want to look something up for World of Warcraft I can use DuckDuckGo and add !wowhead or !wowpedia.

@lucas10,
I'm pretty sure that you don't know what the term "urban legend" means. In this case? Even if Duckduckgo did track it's consumer's web history? That wouldn't make it an urban legend.

No doubt, Google is always legend.

Sounds like it, or at least they say. I've not used it enough nor do I know enough to tell if it's actually true. Seems like a good thing to have in your preferred search engine though.

@lucas10,
They are claiming but we don't have exact information.
