It was truly an amazing and mystic/mystical experience when the downpour stopped when our High Priest arrived at the airport.

They're synonymous. I prefer "mystical" because "mystic" reminds me of the noun.

I'd replace one of the whens with as.

It was truly an amazing and mystic/mystical experience when the downpour stopped when our High Priest arrived at the airport.
