I've just opened The Prehistory of the Mind by Steven Mithen. Has anyone read this book?

Well I really haven't gotten into it very far but it's by an archeologist and is subtitled The Cognative Origins of Art And Science. It's about the developement of the human and prehuman mind during the last six million years.

But, Pitter, Recorded history doesn't go back that far! When Mary Leakey found the earliest homo sapiens in Africa, the knowledge gains were very limited. They made interpretations from foot prints, but it was very rudimentary, and we're talking 2.4 million years ago. Attempting to go back six million years ends up being all guess work, IMHO. Wink c.i.
