Have any of you read Night by Eliezer Wiesel?

It's heartbreaking, yet I can't put it down. It's a very short autobiography, only 9 chapters, about a boy and his experience in the Holocaust. He stayed at Auschwitz and Buna.

I think it's an amazing flashback to such a horrible, horrible event; and a unique opportunity to see it through the eyes of a victim. I've read many Holocaust biographies, but never one like this. It will definitely open your eyes.

It's one of my girlfriend's favorites, so naturally I was forced to read it. I'm not going to knock it, but it didn't blow me away the way it seems to other people. 7/10.

What I liked better (not at all to change the subject) was Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl.

I had to read this book for a class I took one summer about the Holocaust, and I read it in less than an hour. I couldn't put it down. I've re-read it several times and had my boyfriend as well as family members read it. It had a haunting effect on me and left me saddened for days, which I guess is the point of a good book - you can feel it.

Another good book by Eli Weisel is The Accident.

I agree with you Aph, it was a fascinating book.

Now though, after seeing what the Kapos (among others) did, I am curious to read about the Holocaust from their view. I have been searching, but I can't find any literature, even websites or documentaries, on the viewpoint of the Holocaust from the Nazis themselves.

Any suggestions?

Niet - Hey, opposing views are always good. I'll look into Man's Search For Meaning, thanks for the suggestion.

I agree; to read a book about the Holocaust based on the perspective of the Nazi's would be interesting, especially knowing that there are people who believe that the Holocaust never happened.

The only book that comes to mind off hand is Mein Kampf, and even that isn't a book depicting what was actually happening at the time. I'm going to look into it and let you know if I come across anything....and you do the same! Smile
