Can anyone tell me the correct term for groups of related words? For example, supermarket, groceries, food and shopping. Or gardening, seeds, plants and lawnmower. For a project on artificial intelligence.
Thank you in advance!
@Battlefrog,
Hmm good question (and there might not be a true answer). It's definitely not a
word family.
@jespah,
I think we will have to settle for saying 'words with a connection'.
Thank you for replying.
Commonym
The collective noun would doubtless be a commonplace or community of commonyms.
@Battlefrog,
I like the phrase "related words". It perfectly describes words that are related.
@maxdancona,
Many thanks for this link. We have read the article and will remember the website too.
Battlefrog
@laughoutlood,
Thank you, have added 'commonym' to my vocabulary. Will try and drop it into conversation as well!
