Is "on" needed?

I thought that since I had nothing to lose, I should let the Buddha help me and decide (on) my path.

Is "on" needed?

Thanks.

Is "help me and" necessary?

How does the Buddha decide these things?

Did the person have nothing to lose?

If they have nothing to lose then would "should" do or would "would" be better?

I prayed to the Buddha for enlightenment to guide my path.

I believe Miss Tan is doing a translation, and does not have the latitude to alter the text in that manner.

You're right, Setanta. I have to stick to the words as much as possible.

I'd leave out the "and" so that the buddha is only helping rather than making the decision.
