I'm stuck on these clues, 61 Across: If this word is preceded by 'water', then get ready for a piss-up (6), I have these letters ??O??S, 33 Down: She told the womaniser "I'm not going to 'letyer' have yer wicked way with me" (6), I have these letters ???H?R, I think it could be lecher. The blanks aren't linked in the grid, this crossword uses slang and swear words.
@francocig,
I think the first one could be CLOSET. How sure are you about the S?
LECHER sounds right.
@francocig,
Sports as in Water sports.
@cherrie,
The S is right, that clue had "SNAG" as an anagram clue, you're right about LECHER, sometimes cryptic clues don't make sense.
@izzythepush,
It doesn't sound right, the clue said preceded by water, not following water.
@izzythepush,
The 61 across answer could be "Shoots", it vaguely fits the clue, cryptic clues can be hit and miss.
@francocig,
'preceded by water' means that water comes first.
What about water spouts?
@cherrie,
You're right, in that sentence context precede means that water comes first, could be spouts or sports according to Izzy.
@izzythepush,
You might be right, I have heard of the kink Water sports, but Cherie suggested spouts, I might have to flip a coin between Sports or spouts.
@fresco,
Thank you, that settles it.
@francocig,
I'm right, water spouts has nothing whatsoever to do with piss ups. Water sports is a term for when people urinate on each other for sexual gratification. I'm right and the smartest guy on A2K agrees with me.
@izzythepush,
My thinking was that if you piss up(wards) it could be a water spout.
I've never heard water sports used in that context before. So I learnt something today.
@cherrie,
Actually, that's a fairly common usage. Whenever I hear it in conjunction with something like water skiing, I usually blink a time or two.
@roger,
Perhaps it's not that common in Australia, or maybe I've just led a very sheltered life.
@francocig,
I know. It was fairly obvious.
