@OldGrumpy,

Orwell wrote about authoritarian/totalitarian regimes where the government in place controlled (or attempted to) the populace through the control of information including the continual dissemination of falsehoods. Though Stalin censored literature, history, film and educational materials, the prime focus of control was directed at newspapers. Any newspapers that printed anything critical of Stalin's regime were suppressed and individuals responsible were killed or sent to a Gulag.
There is
nothing in Orwell's work that points to private enterprises making choices about politics and speech. His subject was propaganda and media control by an authoritarian state.
If you truly wish to understand and honestly discuss the sort of phenomena that would attend an "Orwellian" regime at the present point in time, then your attention should be directed towards Trump's attempts to bully independent media and to work up anger/hatred of citizens towards independent media. And, of course, at the same time as he does this, he is constantly promoting media outlets which carry little or no criticism of him and his government. As to the element of spreading falsehoods, no President ever has counted on this propaganda technique more than Trump.
