A man's legs and hands were amputated and more than a month later, he's still hospitalized awaiting more surgeries.

The cause of all of this: Bacteria from dog saliva that caused a rare blood infection, doctors told them.

Capnocytophaga canimorsus is a bacterial pathogen found in healthy dogs and cats. There are more than 700 different types of bacteria in a dog's mouth. While rare, people have contracted this bacteria, usually through dog bites, and died.

Licking can also prompt infection.

What are the frakking odds of this ACTUALLY happening? If that sadsack excuse for fearmongering journalism actually stated the Vegas odds? I bet that winning the lottery or being hit by lightning 3 times in a row is a more likely fate than this extremely rare affliction.

If I'm going to win a Darwin Award by this? I'll die with full honors!

@Region Philbis,
We always knew if our dog had been eating dog poop, because we could smell it on her breath. Sometimes we would catch her in the act and stop her from finishing. Smile

Curious is it OK if they eat their own poop?

@Linkat,
Sounds akin to perpetual motion. They eat their own poop, they poop, they eat their own poop. . . .

@roger,
we sometimes wondered if we should just stop feeding Miss Cleo - she could just recycle her own poop forever

apparently while we found it offputting it wasn't bad for her

@tsarstepan,
It's even worse when they gargle with toilet water.

@tsarstepan,
It was one of a few reasons we always have charcoal dog biscuits around. Miss Cleo got two every morning. Healthy gut, not horrid breath.

Ug - my daughters' dog kissed me in my mouth! I picked up the little bugger and I had my mouth open slightly and he licked it!

I'm going die.
