My daughter had a complete ACL tear. She is post op a year and a month. She is fully cleared to play sports again. For the spring season she played on a lower team to get her skills and stamina back to where it once was.
She has played in many games since and sometimes she looks almost like she was before and others she looks the opposite. We try to encourage her and say don't worry about whether you make a basket or not - just keep shooting it will come back. You were out for a year it will take some time, just have fun with it.
We found out this weekend she is afraid to shoot sometimes - she is afraid she isn't as good as she was. It isn't the coach or team - no one ever does anything but encourage - it isn't that they say don't shoot or anything like that - it appears she has lost her confidence.
I was thinking of working with her to have smaller goals and not focus on "being as good as I used to be",
Any thoughts so she doesn't sell herself short and so she isn't afraid?
