forty and some years

Shakyamuni Buddha did not reveal the Law for forty and some years by keeping it as a secret. Furthermore, it is also difficult to teach this Law.

Is forty and some years OK? If so, what does it mean?

Thanks.

I would take it to mean more than 40 years, but probably less than 50.

are you translating something with a lot of repetition?

he did not reveal the law = kept it as a secret

furthermore = also

___

Shakyamuni Buddha kept the difficult to teach law secret for over forty years.

@ehBeth,
Thanks, ehBeth, for pointing out the redundant words. No, it is from a Buddhist magazine.

it is ok but slightly awkward. As a reader, I would think it meant between 41 and 43 years.

__

In reference to your question, keep in mind that ok means something is acceptable but hasn't met the standard of good.
