I don't know what you mean by "young", but based on your moniker I would say you are under 16. I would recommend Philippa Gregory: "The Other Boleyn Girl" and "The Queen's Fool".

Fantasy and Sci Fi:
Terry Pratchett - loosely Fantasy but incredibly funny - there are now something like 25-30 books in the Discworld series. They're all great although i would ostesiably avoid those that include Rincewind, especially the first 2. It helps if you read them in order (apart from the first 2 which you should just miss out cos they don't live up to the standard!!!!!)
Raymond E Feist - the God of fantasy. You'd probably prefer the Empire trilogy although the Riftwar Saga is great too (3 books in each)
Robert Jordan - the wheel of time (11 books the first of which is Eye of the World... i think) - they're good but drag a bit towards the end
Sara Douglass - Read the Axis trilogy and the wayfairer redemption!! ... although if you're american then the two trilogies are marketed as 6 books in the Wayfairer Redemption.
David Eddings - anything

Hope that that helps

I second Terry Pratchett and I'll add George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and the Ender's Game series. Wicked is very good as is Catch-22 (a classic). I also really enjoy the Shannara series by Terry Pratchett and Foundation by Asimov. Most of those are fantasy and sci fi but that's what i enjoy reading the most. If you like i could give some reccomendations from other genres as well.
