In an effort to sharpen our English skills,
my friends and I have been practicing writing in English.

The problem is though, we've got no one to turn to
when we encounter some puzzling expressions.

Please take a look at these sentences and let me know
if these sound awkward or not.

1. I had to work all through the night,
and then began sleeping in the morning.
That pattern made me hard.

This is one of my friends wrote, and I kinda wonder
if the word 'hard' sounds okay here.

What my buddy intended was, maybe, this sleeping pattern
made him feel tired and exhausted. It was very hard for him to get a good sleep
under this pattern.

As far as I know, expressions like 'I'm hard' gets native speakers
to think of something completely different.
You know, something like 'erection'?

Am I the only one who guesses that
what my buddy said could carry some sensual connotation
or you, native speakers, also picture something similar to
what sprang up to my head?

2. The fear of making mistakes is a real thing
so it can lead to put off some of my important obligations
for another time.

Well, grammatically, a noun is to be followed by 'lead to', so
I believe 'put off' should be 'putting off'.

And native speakers don't seem to say 'for another time' often,
so, I would have written, like 'for later'.

My verson of it is,

The fear of making mistakes is a real thing
so it can lead to putting off some of my important obligations
for later.

Did I make it worse or it doesn't still sound natural?

English is hard.
How great it would've been
if I had been born in an English-spoken country.
Not S. Korea. Shoot.

I'd appreciate any comment from you.
Thanks for reading.

@SMickey,
Yes, example #1 is incorrect. It's difficult to see what he might have been trying to say. You're right that "hard" can refer to an erection but people will also use it to describe an attitude of toughness and strength. Or maybe he just meant that the pattern made it hard for him to go through the day. In any case it needs to be rewritten.

Your correction of example #2 is excellent.

English is difficult. The vocabulary is intimidating and the spelling is so irregular! But people can usually make themselves understood — it's just hard to sound like a native speaker.
