Housing benefit

Have been on housing benefit and renting privately for years due to ex husband moving abroad to avoid maintenance. I work full time but do not have high earning capacity. Younger child to go to univ in Sept. Housing benefit section will not allow me to keep a room for him to return to - which he will need 22 weeks of the year. (Also have a daughter at univ whose health is very fragile so she also needs to come home more often than normal.) Any ideas what I can do to afford to rent a 2 bed house to keep my family together? All I want is a modest 2 bed property - small bungalow would be ok. No relatives. Can't get Council accomm or Housing Assn.

Feel so miserable at seeing family base broken up. It's cruel. I know one housing benefit section that does pay housing benefit the weeks of the year that son is home - but seems to be discretionary on individual councils as mine will not. MP is useless and not worth approaching.

Please try to help me. Thanks so much to anyone who can understand my sadness.

im so sorry this happens to you. it hurts to read this post a lot. And it hurts that i do not have any power or knowledge to help.

but, you might try asking a random real estate agent in a big brokerage. i worked in a big brokerage before, and sometimes nice resident sales agent would give advice to callers when they ask for it.

i'll also ask my dad, he is a business broker but he might know.

hang in there,
