I ruined a good pants

I would have tried hydrogen peroxide first, just on general principles. Probably wouldn't have worked, but it is the hot tip on blood stains if you do it within maybe a week of staining. Anyway, sorry to hear of your loss.

Depending upon the fabric, hairspray can often be used to pull out the ink.

I would try that next time it happens, but hairspray isn't something to be found in the Roger household.

What do you do with it - spray it on and wipe it off?

You take a piece of paper towel and gently press and pull, shift paper and press and pull...repeat process as often as needed. Used it to remove ink from carpet once (ran over a pen with a vacuum cleaner) and a few other times for other mishaps with ink. After that, give it a good hit of a certain laundry detergent (the liquid sort) let it soak and rub. (The detergent also works on dried blood)

My wife doesn't use hairspray, so that's pretty much out of the q. Since I rubbed the fabric too hard and changed its color, there's no way to save it. Oh, well, another pants in the g-can.

My wife and I went to a shopping center today, and I found a good deal on a pants at 50% off $50, so I bought it.
