Is there such a thing as a real estate tax?

Or is a parcel of land assessed for one dollar value, upon which a tax rate is applied resulting in the dollar amount payable?

And is the building assessed for a different value and taxed at a different rate?

@gollum,
Usually, the county assesses the property and structures separately and taxes according to some formula.

@roger,
roger-

Thank you.

Is the land taxed at one rate and the building at another rate?

@gollum,
Same rate as far as I know, just different valuation.

Just as a matter of interest, if you own oilfield workover rigs in the state of New Mexico, you have a choice of licensing as a vehicle, or subjecting them to property tax. This leads to a kind of interesting situation in which NM rigs have a Colorado plate so they can work in Colorado.

@roger,
roger-

Thanks.

If you have a chance to check whether the tax rate on the land is different from the tax rate on the building, I would appreciate your answer.

In Texas land is assessed at the same rates as improvements. In fact, all taxable property, including business personal property, is assessed at the same rates set by the taxing entities within a tax district.
