<grin>
Hey Dag, I read you latest blog entry but can't post - I've forgotten my password..... My diagnosis was either love or the flu.
oh, ya mean on my blog? yeah, i've been pathetic all week. dunno what's up. i can't write not only the creative articles stuff, but not even project proposals, reports...nutin. just stuck and stuck and stuck. tomorrow though!
speaking of the flu - i do have a terrible sore throat and sinus ache. but that only arrived fully today.
Calling the Prince, calling the Prince!!!
Super G, tell me, which part of India are you from? Goa? I'm going back in August, and would love to hear all that you're willing to tell. Also am warming up to Mumbai, I think last time I was in a pure and utter shock, but now I'll be ready to take in the megacity at much more ease. I hope. That and I now know a few people there, which should make it more fun...
Dag, dahling I am from up north - though I lived in Mumbai in 1993 (long long time ago.....)
oh, you've BEEN here! where was I?
mumbai in 1993! that must have been exciting. maybe even a bit too exciting. i heard things were somewhat tumultuous in mumbai in the nineties!
aaanyway, moving right along. mumbai, kolkata, delhi, and kerala in august. just two weeks. hopefully back for a few months next year.
august is no time to travel to india to - stick to the hills - rest of india is too hot.
check out darjeeling/sikkim if you havent been there before.
the toy train in darjeeling is only one of 2 railway services in the world, the other being at Semmering in Austria, that has u.n. world heritage monument status.
check out ladakh if possible - its called the "lunar landscape" - for a good reason. google ladakh to pictures.
i'm not traveling for fun, unfortunately. got a few meetings to go to, so the heat it is. i do well in heat, love it in fact, i'm sure i'll be fine.
whats the sort of work do you do?
social service? cultural? missionary? or journalistic?
brahmin - a bit about what dasha does
dagmaraka wrote:err, actually no. Nagaland is high up, I mean it is a mountainous regions, like Nepal, and it does get really cold. They don't get snow though. And I will spend a week in Kerala, which is on the other side of India - the South west, that will be warmer. hooray. i am soooooo excited, even though the political situation in N. is such a grandiose mess right now and we are expected to mediate some solutions in the middle of it. not easy to even imagine. oh well, all the more exciting.
Have you read this thread in its entirety?
i didnt read teh thread in its entirety.
but the quotation you supplied - it tells me about all the places she will be visiting - not why.
i can see they are/she is part of, an external body trying to mediate over the insurgency in nagaland - but as what ??
the motive could be for all the reasons i listed in direct or indirect ways.
The thread describes Dag's work quite nicely. She is a mediator.
mediator yes - with what interest. i mean in what capacity and with what intention ?
missionaries mediate with one sort of end in mind.
social workers with quite another.
cultural mediation is also possible when there are fights over the cultural identity/heritage of a people.
and i have known more than one case of journalists trying to mediate a situation.
the uno mediates too.
is is she a representative of some cultural body, or part of the uno, or a missionary, or a journalist or a social worker (like ford foundation) or what?
She is definitely not a missionary. She could have a bit of a journalistic/political flare, but mostly, I'd say, she's doing mediation in a social/cultural capacity.
I am delighted to see Brahmin here, but wish Brahmin would read the thread... post by post.
sorry, was traveling from coast to coast again..
mediation, conflict resolution, conciliation work.
NOT a missionary, i wasn't even baptised. i'd make a lousy one, that is for sure.
we are still learning and starting a bunch of projects. one is cultural/journalistic/academic/activist sort of a gathering; another is a project at a university, and Nagaland is well, complicated and i cannot disclose much here right now. especially since many here know my real name and it's not hard to find me. this will have to do.
Got the dates down. August 13 to 27, baby! Kohima, Kolkata, Cochin, New Delhi. The 'usual round'. This time we do training, it'll be a lot more busy, but also a lot more challenging, hence exciting. too bad my visa expires august 15, got to get new ones, grrrr....

Wow - that sounded soooo very mysterious that I had to go google. Didnt find much - except that in your organisation you got at least one (other) babe ... two even! (JM / CS).
They got any openings there by any chance? I know I just moved job and country, but if the incentive is - if the incentives are large enough ...
Can you tell from my posts I'm failing to focus on being serious tonight?
