Lots of sightless people manage very well. And people who have experienced both conditions report that the loss of hearing is worse than the loss of sight.

@centrox,

I'd always heard the expression as "windows to the soul". I don't know how that works, though. I think windows to the brain makes more sense as the eyes are directly connected via the optic nerve.

We see with eyes. I like my eyes. I think it is fortunate we mostly all have eyes.
