i think i'm going nuts. i thought that when i first saw spielberg's a.i. back in the day that it ended with a terrible cg series that took the viewer through the beginning of life on earth. meaning, alien life crashed into the ocean, turned to fish, to amphibian, and so on. am i thinking of another movie? or did the theater version have this?

@jennysauras,
I don't actually recall the film very well so have no solid answer for you. But it is not very likely that the original theater release would have more content than subsequent releases. It's more likely that your memory is conflating two films.

@jennysauras,
That's not the ending of the film. Instead, the film ends with David getting one last day with a ghostly version of his 'mother', Monica, at the hands of advanced mechas. See: https://film.avclub.com/contrary-to-popular-opinion-spielberg-found-the-perfec-1798278649

The ending of AI is to do with David reuniting with Monica, and possibly becoming a real boy. The conversion to humanity would be impossible, but that could be the point: reality has the power to inflict the supernatural

I am so tempted to look up the question that that answers.
